Marenco pioneered a novel aesthetic of “cushion assemblage” with his namesake Marenco seating for Arflex by literally assembling the plump seat and armrest cushions to a simple narrow profile base that sits barely above the floor. By arranging the cushions within the metal tubular frame, the designer not only provides the necessary rigidity and resistance to actually enable this atypical aesthetic but still allows Marenco to function beautifully as seating.

The Marenco seating range includes a lounge chair and an ottoman/pouf as well as two-seat and three-seat couches that are noted here. The internal frame is painted tubular steel with a base in fiber-covered wood. Each cushion element features a structure of stress-resistant varying density polyester fiber covered polyurethane foam and is available in a range of fully removable textile and leather upholstery covers.
